Drop Off Meals

I dropped off a meal to a fellow mom's group member tonight.  I have to admit, it wasn't my best showing but I hope she'll appreciate the effort.  I had great intentions of making a scrumptious homemade creamy chicken and tomato basil soup delivered still steaming with warm bread and cookies.  That didn't happen. My day got away from me.  The only time I spent in my kitchen today was when I was running through it get to my car in the garage.  So, this friend got the best I could pull together in a pinch, but it's the effort that matters and she and her family still have a good meal for when they need it this week.

Dinner's In The Bag

Awhile back when I was delivering lots of meals to newlywed friends and new parents, I came up with a "Dinner's In The Bag" concept.  I simply create a meal that will fit in a bag, sometimes a colorful gift bag and sometimes a brown grocery bag.  I tie or tape a note to the bag that says "Dinner's In The Bag" (pun fully intended) and a list of items inside the bag.  I also write notes about how to prepare the meal, how to freeze it if they so wish, or how long it will stay good in the fridge.

I always include an entree, a side/bread, a dessert and usually a drink.

Tonights Bag:  Organic Tomato Basil Soup (store bought from Costco, but it is so good), whole grain bread, beer for mom & dad (the preparation note said "drink"), and carmel and cheese popcorn in mason chairs.

Two quick notes here.  Always keep good jars when you're done with their contents.  They can be used for so many things, like making the popcorn dessert slightly more cute.  Same goes for soup containers. These are great to have around the house.
